Dated and signed 1917. A gift from Pei Yue to Mr. Liang. A lion dad (or mom) is playing with it's kitty. The subject here is very unusual. You might think they are dogs but their protruding teeth give away their identity. I've come across thousands of paintings (no exaggeration, thousands) and I've never seem such lions before. This is not the lions that we know in reality. If you have seem northern lion dance during Chinese New Year or at celebrations, you'll recognize this kind of lion unique to Chinese, or oriental culture. This painting is also unusual in another sense - it's style of painting. Extensive use of lines is not typical of contemporary brush paintings. Kam personally followed through the painting's restoration and remounting process. Based on paper condition and it's original mounting material, the restorer agreed that the date on the painting is not lying. Rarely see me this serious right? It's an antique and I have to respect history.
